Q: Rumors from Minneapolis say that the Wolves are exploring the possibility of trading former No. 1 overall pick Michael Olowokandi to your Celtics for the legendary Mark Blount. That's like trading herpes for syphilis!
-- Ben Kennedy, MinneapolisSG: Come on, that's an insult to both herpes and syphilis.
Now that we've had a good chuckle, I cannot f#&^%$g believe Ainge is looking into this. This is not the deal that solves the problem, though it's possible that Kandi Man's contract is shorter (haven't looked). But from a basketball standpoint, does anyone honestly believe Doc Rivers will bring anything more out of Olowokandi? The guy can't even solve The Case Of Who Belongs In The Starting Lineup... how's he gonna solve The Mystery Of The Center Who Only Focused During His Contract Year? At least Blount plays defense, when he feels like it, regardless of how he hits the boards. I don't get it, unless it's about money somehow.

suspicion confirmed.
Kandiman's in the last year of his contract. Blount has like 5 years left.
Why the hell would anyone take on Blount?

Blount, when effective, is a 16/10 type who blocks shots and plays aggressive defense. 7-footers who are capable of effective play are always in vogue. Just like a lefty. That's why Danny Schayes kept getting jobs.
When in the second year of a six-year deal, however, Blount is on auto-pilot, and nobody can flip that switch back on. He's also a world-class SOB. Kicked off of multiple high school teams, he was so dangerous a recruit that even John Calipari refused him at UMass. And let's not forget the infamous "Pineapple Head" story. The guy's a real jerk. So he goddamn better be effective on the floor, cause there's no other reason to have him around.
But... for Olowokandi???

Minnesota is making the bigger mistake here unless they think Garnett can get something out of Blount. He will get eaten alive in the West, though the size splits aren't as bad as they used to be by any means.
It is like trading herpes for syphillis, or something similar, and I would take 1 year of either over 5 years of the other. I think.

I'm assuming both sides are saying "They're gonna trade our STD for that other STD???" Honestly, the money's the big reason for the C's to do this.
Makes you wonder, though, whether McHale and Ainge are up to something. 1985 Celtics strike again!
