Cashman: Williamson Boras: Shelley "The Machine" Levine A-Rod: James Lingk Lowell: Bruce Nyborg Miggy Cabrera: Patel
Hank and Hal: Mitch and Murray Theo Epstein: Jerry Graff
I don't think anyone else really fits... but let's try.
So who's the Ricky Roma in this situation? Boras by personality, sure, but you can't possibly give him that when he personally fucked EVERYTHING up so badly. Nobody owes Boras $6,000 and a Cadillac for his work. In fact... two offseasons in a row, he screwed the pooch on his biggest asset. (He blinked with Dice-K too.) That screams Machine to me.
April to September, who was #1 on the board?
Roma.
Aaronow and Moss don't really have a place. Not enough people got involved, and there's no conspiracy.
Now, Alec Baldwin... this is someone we can pinpoint. Who's he? Buster Olney?
Not put a damper on all the Boras-hating, but I think life insufficiently mimics art here. The Matsuzaka situation was just Boras being overly ambitious (it looked like a pretty good bluff, but in the end that's all it was), and he did well enough for his guy all things considered. And this situation... it's still $275 million.
Until someone lands a better contract for one of their guys, Boras is still king. There are some cracks in the armor, and maybe we're seeing the beginning of the end of his dominance, but I don't see any indication yet that a player whose looking for the biggest pay day he can get would head to anyone else. We'll see I guess.

Who's gonna shake his rusty cage, Rosenhaus? T.O.'s on the phone, he'd like a word.
