For example, BP tells me something interesting about the Yankees recent additions to their rotation. The immortal Kevin Brown ranks 538 out of 561 pitchers listed in VORP (value over an imaginary, mendoza-line replacement player - as if anyone doesn't know what VORP is)...
They clearly weren't satisfied with a 538 ranking, so they went out and picked up Al "Who Got Da" Leiter, who ranks 542. But the story doesn't end there. Allow me to introduce Mr. Hideo Nomo, recently claimed off of waivers, weighing in at a robust 557.
That's 557 out of 561.

So by now you must be wondering, "where does Tony (You POS!) Womack rank in VORP?
Well, in "I will destroy you with my anger news", he's third from the bottom.
Yep, that's 852 out of 854, with a VORP of -9.8.
Who's worse?
Well, Miguel Olivo for one, who is inexplicably still starting for the M's. He earns a -13.5, which you would assume has got to be a record or something, and is due largely to the fact that he's got a .144 BA, .166 OBP, and is slugging .253 for an OPS of .419. But hey, I hear he handles pitchers really well, right?
Finally, meet Cristian Guzman of your DC Nationals, who boasts a
-19.2 VORP,
and who sets fire to 10x as much of the Nationals money ($4.2 million) as the M's flush down their Oli-bowl.

According to this stat sheet, Jon Garland is the luckiest pitcher in baseball. OH, YOU THINK SO, DOCTOR?????
Matt Clement is #2 on the list, as demonstrated by the way he survived that knock on the head the other night without much more than a bruise. He's gonna miss a start though, what a pussy.
