Discussion Topic

I'm curious as to reactions to this piece by Chuck Klosterman.
On one read, I think it's pretty great, and makes me wish I knew Messers. Klosterman and Gladwell. Since I don't, I'll toss to y'all.

One very minor objection I have to it is that Morrison is no where NEAR the range shooter that Bird was. Though I don't know how good Larry was in college from 3- though I assume he was great. Anyone know how to find ex-college stats online?

And on further inspection, Morrison's raised his 3 point shooting % astronomically this year-- up to a very respectable .397... for reference, J.J. Redick's shooting .403.

  • I don't have much to say about this, but if you want to talk about nothing but Malcolm Gladwell for hours, just mention to Piledriver how interesting you found this article. He is a man obsessed. Also, you can check some of Gladwell's archive here:

If you want to read up.

  • When I read anything comparing Morrison to Bird, I dismiss the comment immediately, because this has been an inside joke with Chas and me for years. You'd say something like "That McNabb guy plays quarterback just like Warren Moon did," or "This kid Dunleavy reminds me of a young Chris Mullin." Where there's obviously no connection whatsoever other than skin color, and yet that's what people insist on comparing.

I'm not saying Morrison isn't the next Bird, but I will say that if Morrison doesn't carry Gonzaga to the National Championship Game, and doesn't do it without help from his teammates along the way, then you have to stop making those comparisons.
